"Sally" - Springer Spaniel with New Lens after Cataracts

Someone once said "A good man takes care of his animals" and this has certainly been my experience over the years. The level of effort and support that some owners are prepared to commit can be a humbling experience. At Fairfield, we are extremely fortunate and privileged to have a large number of clients who do just that!

"Sally" is one such patient and has just experienced a bright new future. As a diabetic she had over a period of time developed cataracts which had significantly clouded her vision. Hopeful of improving her quality of life her owners had opted for specialist treatment at a clinic in Soilihull to have the cataract removed and a new lens fitted. Whilst the rewards for successful surgery allow a patient to see again the procedure is not without risk.

The immediate post op recovery period is crucial and the initial medical management is quite intense. 3 sets of eye drops have to be administered up to 6 times a day. 2 sets of tablets have to be taken twice daily as well as the twice daily insulin injections. Finally, ensuring that a lively Springer Spaniel avoids any further trauma can result in many an anxious moment.

Having looked after her for only a week-end I can personally vouch for that anxiety and take my hat off to all those other clients who already gone down this route! Nevertheless, the current outlook is very promising and it would appear that "Sally's" owners efforts have proved worthwhile.
